Dan Phiffer is a software developer who helps out with building ProPublica’s website and keeping it running smoothly. He joined the product team in late 2024.

Before joining ProPublica, Phiffer worked at The Markup, helping launch and maintain its website and release open-source tools; he occasionally contributed to editorial projects. Before that, he worked at the American Civil Liberties Union, building data APIs and special projects.

Phiffer has a bachelor of science in computer science from Harvey Mudd College and a masters of professional studies from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. He’s based in Troy, New York.
