The sixth ProPublica P5 Resident is Joanna Kao.
Joanna is a graduating senior in computer science at MIT, where she worked at its student paper, The Tech, as a designer, editor and developer. At The Tech she worked on interactive projects like the paper’s "Under Pressure" series, reported on a seriesof hacks following the death of Aaron Swartz and edited thepaper'scoverage of the shooting, in April of an MIT campus police officer by Boston Marathon bombing suspects.
At ProPublica, Joanna is doing a rotation through several news apps currently in development. She'll be helping scrape websites, getting code walk-throughs of projects currently in development, and will be contributing code to a map project that will launch soon.
Joanna will be a data visualization and graphics intern at the Boston Globe this summer.
