Pictures of the Year International, Multiple Categories

ProPublica’s visual storytelling department — including the staff films team and independent photographers who the department partnered with on various projects — were honored with multiple awards by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute in its 82nd Pictures of the Year International competition.

“The Year After a Denied Abortion” won first place in the online storytelling project of the year category.

“The Right Way,” from ProPublica and The Texas Tribune, directed by Gerardo del Valle, won first place in the documentary news reporting category.

“'Cookie & Zo’e': A Georgia Family Wrestles With School Choice 60 Years After Desegregation,” directed by Liz Moughon and Almudena Toral, won first place in the documentary daily life category.

“'Del Rio, Texas': How a Race for Sheriff Became a Referendum on Immigration,” directed by Gerardo del Valle was named a finalist for the documentary of the year category.
