Online Journalism Awards, Finalists

The Online News Association has named ProPublica and partner newsrooms as finalists for 15 Online Journalism Awards, which honor excellence in digital journalism around the world.

ProPublica is a finalist for general excellence in online journalism, medium newsroom.

"State of Disrepair: Inside Idaho’s Crumbling Schools," a collaboration with Idaho Statesman through ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network, is a finalist for the Knight Award for Public Service.

"The Night Doctrine," an animated documentary made in collaboration with The New Yorker, is a finalist for the digital video storytelling, long form, small/medium newsroom category.

Adapting ProPublica’s Investigative Reporting for Social Video Audiences, is a finalist for the digital video storytelling, social media, small/medium newsroom category.

"Unprepared," a documentary made in collaboration with FRONTLINE and The Texas Tribune, is a finalist in the excellence in collaboration in partnerships category.

"Uprooted: How Public Universities in Virginia and Across the Nation Expanded by Displacing Black Communities," a collaboration with Virginia Center for Investigative Journalism at WHRO through ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network, is a finalist in the excellence in social justice reporting, portfolio category.

"The Scandal That Never Happened" is a finalist in the excellence in social justice reporting, single story category.

"Friends of the Court" is a finalist in the excellence in social media engagement category.

"The Year After a Denied Abortion" is a finalist in the excellence in visual digital storytelling, medium newsroom category.

"Unprepared," a documentary made in collaboration with FRONTLINE and The Texas Tribune, and "Black Boxes: How Police Undermined the Promise of Body Cameras," a collaboration with The New York Times Magazine, are finalists in the explanatory reporting, large newsroom category.

"The U.S. Government Defended the Overseas Business Interests of Baby Formula Makers. Kids Paid the Price." is a finalist in the explanatory reporting, medium newsroom category.

"Thirsty Valley," a collaboration with The Desert Sun, is a finalist for The University of Florida Award in Investigative Data Journalism.

"Black Boxes: How Police Undermined the Promise of Body Cameras," a collaboration with The New York Times Magazine, is a finalist in the topical reporting: race, ethnicity, gender and identity, large newsroom category.
