WDET’s Terry Parris Jr. to Become ProPublica’s New Community Editor

ProPublica announced today that Terry Parris Jr., the digital lead for editorial at WDET 101.9 FM, will join its staff on Oct. 6 as community editor.

At WDET, Detroit’s NPR affiliate, Parris has led the online journalism and engagement efforts, helping to launch Detroit Park Watch, a city park tracking tool, and Next Chapter Detroit, WDET’s bankruptcy blog.

“To me, ProPublica is one of the few organizations who embrace and understand the power of community participation in journalism,” Parris said. “So it's a privilege and an honor to come work there.”

Parris previously led community engagement, digital and social efforts for PennLive/The Patriot-News and Ustream and was an editor at Patch.com.

“With his years of leadership in engagement and his limitless enthusiasm, Terry is a natural fit for ProPublica as we grow and hone our connection with our audience,” said Amanda Zamora, ProPublica’s senior engagement editor.
