ProPublica’s Robin Fields and Marshall Allen were honored by the Association of Health Care Journalists as part of their 2010 Awards for Excellence in Health Care Journalism.
The 2010 awards, which were announced earlier today, recognize the best health reporting in nine categories covering print, broadcast and online media.
Fields won first place in the Multimedia category for her series on dialysis – an investigation that required more than 27 months of reporting and numerous Freedom of Information Act requests. ProPublica’s newest reporter, Allen, won second place in the same category for his investigation on hospital care with the Las Vegas Sun.
"Journalists are tackling difficult and important medical and health policy issues, despite working in an era of increasingly limited resources," said contest chair Julie Appleby, senior correspondent for the nonprofit Kaiser Health News. "The high quality of these winning entries show they are doing so in a way that not only captivates and informs, but in many cases also results in needed changes."
Congratulations to Robin and Marshall.
