Two ProPublica investigations were honored by the Overseas Press Club with awards today. Dafna Linzer, Chisun Lee and Krista Kjellman Schmidt received the OPC award for best international coverage on a website for their work on The Detention Dilemma, a series that examines Guantanamo Bay and the issues surrounding indefinite detention. The judges were impressed by the scope and breadth of the series and praised ProPublica for crafting a “gripping, compelling narrative” from “very complicated, dry and tedious documents.”
ProPublica senior reporter Sebastian Rotella was also recognized for his series, Mumbai Terror Attacks, in the category of best online investigation of an international issue or event. The judges noted that Rotella, “found that the plotters were still at large and that the U.S. had been slow to recognize their dangers and the threat posed by the bomber despite repeated intelligence inquiries.“
The awards will be presented tonight by NBC News anchor Lester Holt at a dinner in New York. See a complete list of the Overseas Press Club winners here. Congratulations to everyone.
