ProPublica and the Financial Times won an Overseas Press Club award for Tax Wars: A Cross-Border Battle Worth Billions. This is the third year in a row ProPublica has been recognized for its international reporting by the OPC.
The joint investigation focused on the ways banks and other companies have used specialized foreign tax credits to save them billions of dollars in tax breaks. The series won in the category of 'Best Online Investigation of an International Issue or Event.' In the past, ProPublica has won for its series on Guantanamo Bay and the issues surrounding indefinite detention, the Mumbai terror attacks and the plight of civilian contractors in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
