ProPublica is seeking a Data Fellow to help research and produce the in-depth, data-driven investigations we’re known for.
The data fellowship is a long-term internship (up to one year) working with our award-winning News Application and Data team, assisting with the data preparation and statistical analysis that is central to projects like Surgeon Scorecard.
Our ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and proficient in statistics. He or she wants to make a dent in the universe, and expand his or her horizons into the world of data journalism. Proficiency in SQL and R is a must.
Former interns in the department have gone on to work at The New York Times, Center for Public Integrity and the Center for Investigative Reporting.
The internship is available starting summer 2016. It is a paid position. Our offices are in New York City, and telecommuting is not an option. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or already have a valid work visa.
ProPublica is committed to diversity and especially encourages members of underrepresented communities to apply, including women, LGBTQ people, people of color, and people with disabilities.
