ProPublica announced today that it has hired Claudia Milne as its first senior editor for video. Milne will lead the nonprofit newsroom’s video efforts, creating a range of original stories, as well as overseeing partnerships with established production companies.
Milne worked for nearly two decades at the BBC, where she began in the documentary unit and went on to create a series of award-winning programs, including the nightly newscast “BBC World News America.” She also worked as a senior producer for the BBC in the United States, covering several presidential elections and Hurricane Katrina. She launched the U.S. edition of the BBC News website, where she created five weekly digital series. Most recently, Milne served as head of Global TV at Bloomberg, a job that called for a re-imagining of Bloomberg’s video efforts for a digital audience.
“We have already had some fruitful video partnerships,’’ said ProPublica editor-in-chief Stephen Engelberg. “Now, we are going to build our own capacity to create video. With Claudia’s track record of innovation in this field, she is the ideal person to lead this exciting initiative.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining the ProPublica team,” said Milne. “I’m looking forward to finding new ways of reaching the audience with the incredibly important work they do.”
