Olivia Walton Joins ProPublica’s Communications Team

ProPublica announced Wednesday that Olivia Walton has been hired as a communications manager to help ensure our journalism reaches the broader public and key decision-makers.

Walton was most recently an associate director of publicity at Press Shop PR, a boutique firm in Brooklyn, where she led media campaigns for authors and publishers, specializing in topics such as equity and inclusion and criminal justice reform.

She has worked on multiple New York Times bestsellers, launched the Black Lives Matter series with Yale University Press and secured coverage in outlets such as The New York Times, MSNBC and NPR.

Olivia also serves as a national and regional writing juror for the Scholastic Writing Awards and holds an MFA in nonfiction writing from The New School.

“Olivia is a savvy public relations expert with a proven track record of drawing public attention to compelling but complex storytelling,” said Alexis Stephens, ProPublica’s director of communications. “I feel lucky that she’s joined us to help expand and diversify our audiences.”

“I’m honored to join ProPublica,” said Walton, “and look forward to amplifying the reach and impact of stories that serve the public interest and hold power to account.”
