Former AP reporter Paul Chavez wrote today on Clear365 about monitoring I-405 as part of our Adopt a Stimulus Project initiative. You can describe I-405 as the nation's largest stimulus-funded highway project or, as Paul puts it:
Besides being a conduit for getting from San Pedro to Hollywood, the freeway has become a part of the Los Angeles landscape, as ubiquitous as the beach, the palm trees and the walls of the San Gabriel Mountains. The author Joan Didion in her 1970 novel "Play It As It Lays," wrote of the cultural significance of the freeway, which becomes a refuge for the book's tragic heroine, Maria Wyeth, who rides the freeway alone in her car to escape her disintegrating life.
Either way, check out Paul's post.
