President Obama has just signed a series of executive orders essentially dismantling the former administration’s detention system for terror suspects. Top among those orders is a directive to close Gitmo "no later than one year from now."
"Closing Gitmo," is one of Obama’s promises that we’re tracking. While the White House is obviously moving to fulfill that promise, we’re keeping the clock ticking for now. As the White House put it in a press release today, "Closure of the facility is the ultimate goal but not the first step. The Order establishes a review process with the goal of disposing of the detainees before closing the facility."
