We’ve updated our Stimulus Progress Bar, which shows that as of Monday, federal agencies had spent just under 14 percent of their stimulus funds. (Our numbers don’t include tax cuts.)
More than six months after the stimulus was passed, a distinction is emerging among agencies: The Departments of Justice, Labor, and Health and Human Services have each spent nearly a quarter of their stimulus money—well above the average—while other big agencies, including Transportation, Homeland Security, State, Defense, and Energy, have all spent less than 5 percent of their money.
That difference is likely due in part to the different kind of spending these agencies are undertaking under the Recovery Act. But is it also a question of some agencies working harder than others to get money out the door quickly? We’ll keep watching as the stimulus unfolds.
