The Labor Department's Wage and Hour division mishandled 9 of ten complaints brought by GAO investigators posing as workers, according to the New York Times' review of a new GAO report. That division was also called to answer to allegations that, as we reported, a Texas company was paying disabled workers as little as 37 cents an hour to gut turkeys at an Iowa plant.
Also, at least four members of the U.S. House of Representatives appear to be improperly taking advantage of a Washington, D.C., homestead tax break while maintaining residency in their home states, reports Roll Call. Three of the four said they had gotten the tax break in error.
